8/13/2010 Power Interruption in San Francisco

At 10:25:31 AM 8/13/2010 power provided by PG&E to the ZZ Servers datacenter was interrupted for approximately 3 seconds. http://www.pge.com/about/news/outagestatus/outagemap/ The datacenter has multiple UPS’s and an automatic generator to provide power in the event of any issues. All of the UPS’s performed as designed except for one. One UPS went in to bypass mode and some ZZ Servers customers with infrastructure behind that UPS experienced approximately 3 seconds of variable power supply. The UPS is currently in bypass mode and technicians are on-site testing the unit and it will be put back online as soon as possible. The UPS’s are integral to providing seamless power to ZZ Servers customers and are inspected and tested regularly. All of the UPS’s were inspected July 14th and the batteries tested. Additionally, the entire contingency power supply (UPS’s and generator) was successfully tested on April 15th as part of our quarterly power maintenance procedures. As a result of this issue, we will review our policies and procedures and work with our vendors to ensure that we are providing the most reliable infrastructure possible. The ups that had the power problem last week that was put into bypass mode has been put back into normal operations during the maintenance work over the weekend. Read more » | |
